BlackRock IBIT And ETHA Add Nearly $1 Billion In Bitcoin And Ethereum

BlackRock's exchange-traded funds accumulated nearly $1 billion in Bitcoin and Ethereum during a market slump driven by war and U.S. economic data, according to fund flow figures. The purchases mark one of the largest single-week crypto ETF accumulation periods for the world's largest asset manager, which oversees roughly $11.6 trillion in total assets.

The purchases were made through BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA), the firm's two spot crypto ETFs. IBIT, which launched in January 2024, has become the largest Bitcoin fund globally, holding more than 570,000 BTC at recent count. ETHA, launched in July 2024, has accumulated over 1.2 million ETH since inception.

The accumulation came during a period of heightened market stress driven by escalating war-related headlines and softer-than-expected U.S. economic data. Bitcoin traded in a range near $95,000 to $98,000 during the accumulation window, while Ethereum hovered around $3,200 to $3,400, according to market data.

BlackRock has not issued a formal statement on the specific inflows, but the firm has consistently positioned its digital asset products as long-term portfolio building blocks rather than short-term trading vehicles. The accumulation during a downturn aligns with BlackRock's stated view that institutional investors are increasingly treating Bitcoin and Ethereum as diversifiers and inflation hedges.
